Alright y’all, we’re back on the horse! I fell behind a bit due to a plethora of factors, but we’re focusing on slow and steady, and keeping things fun!
For the next two weeks, my goal is to put out 2 of these articles so we can catch up, but it might take longer than that! Regardless, even if I can’t commit to that schedule, we’ll be posting *some* form of dungeon23 content for you here for Fridays!
This" “week” of dungeon rooms took awhile to bust out, but I still found myself having a lot of fun exploring the many potentials of a single page.
Some Context: For my dungeon23 challenge, I’m making a d365 random table of tunnel/cavern “rooms” inside my cosmic underworld setting, “The World Without Skies”.
Without further ado, LET’S GO!
Week 7: Double Trouble
For some of these weekly themes, they get pretty ethereal pretty quick, so I wanted to make this one more conscious, playful, and simple.
So this week, regardless of what was going on, there had to be a pair of somethings in each room.
This “week” was also spread across a couple weeks plus in real-time. Because of that, I think they’ve come out more robust than not!
I also wanted to share the last room of week 6, as I didn’t finish that room before posting that article, and I wrote it to fall in line with this weeks’ prompt as well!
I think it came out pretty great!
Innovations: Fast Scanner & “What’re They Selling?”
Spooky gave me this great recommendation to digitize my entries through a smartphone scanner app instead of trying to take a picture and edit it as a photograph - and it’s made ALL the difference in readability. I’ll be posting all my new rooms like this!
One more, for lost times’ sake… (you can find every single room I scribble in the discord server, I post it live there every time)
(Now only to make my handwriting more legible, lol)
As far as random tables go, this week I made a random table that generates shopkeeps & their inventories. You could roll this several times, or just once, to figure out so much info about a seller’s wares.
I love designing random tables that double dip with design space. Whenever you can create more utility from stuff you already have written down, it just feels so crisp!
Best Room of the Week: The Weeping Walkers
Though “Hunted By God” was the most well-received room I’ve posted from this week, this one is subjectively my favorite (which is the only factor that decides what the “best” room is)…
Aberrant, uncanny forms. And a great little shopkeep, using both the new seller’s inventory table, and my denizen generator.
Discord Highlights: THE SAMPLEVERSE
In spite of some of the buzz falling off with dungeon23, and even myself getting off-track, there’s still been a regular amount of activity in our #dungeon-23-cult discord channel!
One gem from the depths was presented to us by our good friend Adam STATION; a large database of song lyric passages, sampled from many songs, that evoke a cool idea one could use in an RPG - whatever that idea may be.
The coolest bit of The Sampleverse is that everything has a plethora of tags you can use to filter and search for new ideas of specific things - treasure, curses, monsters, NPC motives, etc.
Adam also introduced me to the Notion platform as a whole, which I’m likely to use a lot more of in the future!
Here’s The Sampleverse, follow Adam’s random tables & databases on Notion!

Discovery: Sap of the Week!
This week/year I am discovering that time management is everything, and that nothing can replace time spent with the people that bring you joy, even if that person is just yourself.
Zeroing in on the “story” of this week of entries, I’d say I discovered that there is always another blank page, brimming with potential, waiting for you to explore and create something amazing. The Dream Is Alive.
